The Greeley West Boys’ Wrestling team will travel to Niwot High School on Friday to compete in a Tri-Duel with the host Niwot and Thornton High School.
The Spartans hope to repeat the success from last year by beating Niwot and Thornton very convincingly. “I pretty much expect to beat both teams pretty handily. Last year, we beat Niwot. We gave up one forfeit and pinned 13 other matches, and then we also beat Thornton last year pretty handily as well,” said Coach Eli Hendershott.
The boys took 3rd at the previous tournament, where they competed against 11 other Colorado schools. The team performed well after impressive performances from their senior class. “Honestly, our senior group is solid, and they all handle their business really well,” said Hendershott.
Preparations have been in progress all week during practice. “We practice what we see,” said Hendershott. “We try to prepare for the teams in front of us. Rocky is like a team that really loves to leg ride and things like that, so we work those things during practice.
He gave as an example. “Every team has things they’re known for, so you prep those things, but also give kids and wrestlers the opportunity to put themselves in situations that they’re finding themselves in, and then teach them how to work themselves out of it,” Hendershott explained.
The Tri-Duel will start at 5:00 pm.
