Greeley West senior football player Antonio Virgil committed to play college football at Fort Lewis College in Durango. Virgil has been intensely working the past four years to earn this opportunity. “For me college football has been something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid, and it’s always been just getting to that next step and its been what I’ve been working for and I’m just truly blessed and grateful that I get that opportunity,” said Virgil.
Coach Jakob Vargas has been watching Virgil steadily grow over the past few years saying, “He’s totally transformed himself as a football player and as an athlete, and it was through his hard work and his dedication that really made him become the best version of himself,” said Vargas.
Virgil has played a huge role in the success of the Greeley West football team with Vargas saying, “He’s what you’d call a game wrecker. Meaning on defense, offenses would have to accommodate for him because he’s so fast off the ball and very hard to block, so he can really just take over a game,” said Vargas.
The recruiting process can be a daunting task for any athlete. “Anyone looking to get to that next level start now, time is a huge factor in the recruiting process and the earlier you start the better chance you have,” said Virgil.
Choosing a specific college is not easy with the thousands out there but Virgil mentioned some things that made the choice a little easier. “From everything I have experienced on campus with coaches, students, and teammates Fort Lewis definitely is a program that is interested in making changes and their making big steps to make that change happen. The campus is very beautiful with a lot of great scenery and they provide their students with multiple opportunities to fit in no matter where or what you come from.”
