On Saturday, the Greeley West High School girls Wrestling team made their way to Regionals where 6 girls qualified for state. For these girls, qualifiers or not, all had one thing in common, dedication. 

This was a big day for many of the girls but Alexa, a freshman on Varsity, couldn’t be happier to know all of her hard work and dedication paid off, “wrestling is a tough sport , every girl is hungry for that spot and to qualify” 

Guerrero continued, “knowing that, I had to be more aggressive than them because no one on their mat is going to go easy no matter what. But i also knew, i was hungrier, i wanted it more” 

This fight didn’t stop with Guerrero, as many girls felt the same. Serenity Newton, a sophomore, said, “I think regionals pushes us all to go out and wrestle like we never had before knowing if we don’t make state, our seasons over” 

Newton continued, “it became all about the mindset, inside and outside of practice” 

 The energy continued even through the JV team. As Neveah Salazar, a junior, was pulled up to varsity, the nerves were high, “with having little mat time, I really had to rely on the fundamentals I have learned. I wanted to focus on being as aggressive as possible and make the match mine.” 

She continued, “Even without the qualification for state, remembering how far I have come to get here serves as a great reminder of why I do what i do”
