With a couple weeks of spring sports already passed, here are some initial reaction from the boys swim team.
Head coach Colin Shaha said the captains are taking their job very seriously at trying to create the best environment for the beginning of the season. “At the beginning of this season, I’ve seen just a little bit more of the captains’ going out of their way to acknowledge and recognize the novice swimmers and the younger swimmers. I think the way that the upper classmen have thought about how to start the season by trying to be very welcoming, I haven’t seen that much preparation in previous years in that regard.” Shaha explained.
Freshman Jordan Vazquez has goals to gain experience in a new sport and get better over the season “My goals for this season are to better myself and learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming (as I’ve never done before). I also want to be able to periodically get better over the course of the season, bettering my time and finding an event that I enjoy or do well in. I would like to be better both in the pool and in school being present in both.” Vazquez explained.
Senior Jacob Nichols is ready for the season and can’t wait to see what he can do. “I believe I am very prepared for this upcoming meet. I worked hard during the preseason as I was getting back into the swing of things. I feel confident in my abilities as a swimmer and know I have what it takes to be a valuable asset to the team no matter what event I am in, as long as it’s not the 500 freestyle or 100 breaststroke (the worst of my events),” Nichols explained.
