Savory foods and national monuments made a Greeley West sophomore’s summer vacation even better than she anticipated.
Mya Salazar who is an active member of the varsity volleyball team, as well as girls’ wrestling team, used her summer break to travel to New York City with her mom in July.
Throughout her stay, she resided in a hotel near Times Square. During her stay, she traveled around using the infamous New York City subway. Salazar also got around using the ferry to visit the national monument, the Statue of Liberty. She did not just visit the Statue of Liberty, but also the 9/11 memorial, where she really took it all in. This trip was not only just for the fun of it, but was to celebrate her birthday, July 4, on a grand scale.
Although Salazar went to the historical monuments, they weren’t her favorite part of the trip.
“My favorite part was eating all the different food,” Salazar said.
Salazar liked best the diversity in food and all of the different options to choose from. Out of all of the different foods in New York, the most enjoyable for Salazar was food from the three-story McDonald’s.
Salazar also exchanged greetings during her stay with a well-known influencer, Katie Fang, who has over 6 million followers on social media. Salazar saw her on the street and waved hello; she didn’t even get a picture.
Although Salazar did a lot of activities throughout her stay, the weather was not ideal, and it was raining throughout her trip. This did not stop her from venturing out, especially during the nighttime, when she would go to Times Square and watch performers on the street.
“Never Silent” is how Coloradan Salazar described New York City. It was also a big deal that many people compared to Colorado do not drive and instead walk throughout the city to get to their destination. At the very end of her journey, the only thing Salazar could say about her birthday trip was to rate it. “10/10… it was so much fun,” Salazar said.
