Greeley West senior Leo Soto isn’t just finishing his last year of high school, he’s also making a name for himself in the music scene. Soto plays bass for Codigo MH alongside Alex Miranda, Jesus Huerta, and Bautista Eschino, a serreño band that has been gaining fans across Colorado and Wyoming.
Soto first joined the band in June of 2024 at his friends house. Since then, they’ve been practicing together everyday after school.
Soto said music has become a big part of his life. “Music is just how we express ourselves,” he said. “We want people to have fun at our shows.”
His hard work quickly paid off when they performed their first public show in September of 2024. Since then, they’ve been performing at house parties and local events, building a growing audience with every performance.
Even though being in a band takes time and effort, Soto says it’s all worth it. “It’s not only a good way to gain money,” he said, “but it’s something that I enjoy doing.”
Soto and his bandmates are saving their earnings to better their group. Singer Alex Mirando said, “We’re saving up to buy better equipment and record more music.”
This Saturday, Soto will be playing in Wyoming with Codigo MH for their next shows. He hopes to inspire journeys at Greeley West so students can chase their passions.
