This year, FFA advisors, Ms. Alexandra Grimes and Mr. Kelly Longarce, took seven students to the FFA National Convention. The students they take are mainly upperclassmen who are actively engaged in the Greeley FFA Chapter at West.
The group typically drives to Indianapolis. This leads to many opportunities to stop at colleges on the way there. This year, they stopped at two colleges: Kansas State and the University of Missouri.
Junior Elizabeth McKnight enjoyed seeing all the opportunities at K-State. “Outside of the convention, hearing about the opportunities at K-State interested me the most.” elaborated McKnight.
One thing Grimes wants her students to take away is, “that FFA is amazing when you can understand the growth it can do for you, but also that the world spans outside of Colorado and agriculture opportunities really are endless.”
Junior Billie Perez truly enjoyed, “seeing the impact the FFA Organization has throughout the nation.”
The National FFA convention has been held in Indianapolis since 2016 and is scheduled to be held there through 2033. This year, there were roughly 73,000 people who attended the convention and expo. These people come from FFA chapters from all over the nation, and even some people from FFA chapters in Puerto Rico.
Some of the stops Grimes really liked were “seeing a new college, which was K-State, and going to the Clydesdale Horse Farm. Both of these are things I have yet to do with students, and they were awesome!”
Both Perez and McKnight said, “the best part of the trip was making new friends with people from all over the country.”
