In 2027, Greeley West students have the opportunity to travel to either Portugal or South Africa. Ms. Corrine Loulies and Ms. Susan Eastin are hosting a 2027 Travel Night on Wednesday, November 19th over Zoom that has more information about these trips.
The South Africa trip goes on for 11 days during July. Throughout the trip, students will be able to experience a variety of different sights. Some of the outings will include a day long safari at Kruger National Park where students will be able to see over 1,600 different species that live there, a tour of Nelson Mandela’s former home in Johannesburg that is now a historical site that houses artifacts from his life, and the opportunity to visit the Cradle of Humankind, where some of the oldest human fossils have been found. Students will also be able to see African penguins at Cape Point Beaches, Cape Town.
The Portugal trip is a few months before, during Spring Break, and goes on for seven days. During this trip, students have the opportunity to see parts of the Iberian Peninsula of Lisbon and Porto. The medieval Alfama district, which is Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, shows the vibrant culture of the town with its historical buildings and medieval layout. There will also be a chance to make azulejos, which are traditional tiles, visit various palaces, and also see one of the most famous bookstores in the world. This bookstore is called The Livraria Lello, and it is where J.K Rowling got her inspiration to write Harry Potter.
There are around 25-30 spots for each trip, and some students have already signed up. The best time would be soon after the informational meeting. As time goes by, the prices get higher, and spots get taken.
If price is a dealbreaker, there is a payment plan where students pay monthly, along with a fundraising page. This page can be sent to friends and family members to donate money where 100% of it goes towards the cost of the trips.
Loulies stated, “Come and see the world and grow. Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer!”
