Last Thursday, junior AVID students went on a field trip to Denver to attend a Denver Nuggets basketball game and attend a leadershp conference. The trip combined fun, learning, and bonding, giving students a unique experience outside of the classroom.
For many students, attending the game was a brand-new experience. Junior Kiera Klinger said, “It was really fun to watch it with my friends and experience that because I never have before.” stated Klinger.
The energy of the crowd and excitement of the game made the night unforgettable. Students also explored downtown Denver, enjoying the lively atmosphere and spending quality time together. Junior Ulises Sanchez said, “One memory I will keep from this trip is walking around downtown Denver with my friends and riding scooters at night,” stated Sanchez.
The trip also strongly connected to AVID’s mission of preparing students for future success. Guest speakers, who were former AVID students, spoke to the group about their journeys and how AVID helped them reach their goals. Klinger said “This trip connected to AVID because we had guest speakers come and talk to us about their experience and give us some really good advice on life while talking about how AVID helped them to get there,” Said Klinger.
In addition to learning, the trip helped strengthen friendships. Many students bonded with peers they do not normally interact with during the school day. Sanchez said, “This helped me bond with AVID students that aren’t in my class all the time because we got to spend time with them,” said Sanchez.
