The Senior Assassin game has officially taken over Greeley West, turning everyday routines into strategic missions filled with excitement, suspense, and a little bit of chaos. The game, popular among graduating seniors, involves students “eliminating” assigned targets using water guns while avoiding being eliminated themselves.
Participants say the game adds an extra layer of fun to the final weeks of high school. “It makes everything more exciting,” senior participant Karla Chavarria Moreno said. “You’re constantly looking over your shoulder, even in places you wouldn’t expect. It’s stressful, but in a fun way.”
The rules are simple but strict: students must track down their assigned target and successfully “splash” them outside of designated safe zones. One unique twist is the use of goggles if a player is wearing their goggles, they are considered safe and cannot be eliminated. In addition, any school property serves as a safe zone, meaning students are protected while on campus or at school-related locations.
However, the game takes a dramatic turn every Sunday during what players call “Purge Day.” On this day, normal protections are lifted, and goggles no longer guarantee safety. The only remaining safe zone is the Greeley West parking lot, making the competition far more intense. “Purge Day is when things get really serious,” senior Emmanuel Silva Rodelo explained. “You can’t rely on your goggles, so you have to be extra careful the whole day.”
Many seniors say the competition quickly becomes intense. “People get really into it,” senior Arianna Ramirez said. “You’ll see someone parked down your street or hiding behind a car just waiting for the right moment. It’s honestly kind of crazy.”
